Textual Reading-Ten Minute Play
For our in class reading, we were assigned to read the Introduction to Drama, pages 779 to 801. I did a few plays in high school and I really loved them! Many of definitions that came up, I have heard at one time or another. So instead of having to make us read plays, Stephanie gave an assignment where we had to perform a ten minute play. I was kind of nervous upon hearing this, but then I found out we were going to be put into groups. My group consisted of Deb, Olivia, Jeff and myself. We performed the play, Fugue, by Laura Elizabeth Miller. This ten minute play was about a serial killer who lives down the street from three little girls. He chops the remains in little pieces and buries each piece in a hole. The three girls are Amy, who was played by Olivia, Gladyce, who was played by Deb, and Lizzy, the girl who I played. The serial killer’s name was Harry, who was played by Jeff. When I first read the play, I was kind of confused about it. But then when I read it again, I figured out that each girl was actually talking separately but also to each other in a sense. The whole play was pretty much a flashback. In the beginning, the girls are re-telling their horrible tales of getting murdered, and then it flashes back to that day when they were murdered. I really enjoyed performing this play. It was a fun way to incorporate drama without actually having to read it. I also liked how we got to use our scripts. That took most of the pressure off of performing in front of the class.

I liked your play a lot. It was cool how you guys performed it. Jeff made a really creepy serial killer and you guys were pretty funny, although not a funny topic. Ten-minute plays are actually a good time! Stephanie is the man for making drama enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteOur play was fabulous. It didn't just tell a story, it evoked emotions in the audience, sometimes not comfortable ones. Great stories bring an awareness and spark thoughts and feelings about a particular subject. There were some shortcomings about the play, but overall I thought it was well written, and I am sure glad we got to experience it together.
ReplyDeleteI thought you guys did a great job performing your play. You were all really enthusiastic and really into the play. I did not really like the topic of your play. Killing little girls is not cool. I also liked that we did not have to read a bunch of plays. I think it was a good idea to spilt us up into groups and have each group perform a play. It was also really good that we got to use our scripts. I think that made it a lot easier and less stressful.

ReplyDeleteI have to say your play gave off real emotions it felt as if I was watching a reinactment of a story about little girls being killed by a serial killer on lifetime. I personally couldnt have done this play because I would have felt uncomfortable but I thought you guys did a good job in performing it and bringing props into your play to let us visualize it.
ReplyDeleteI thought your play was very interesting. It made the audience think, and try to figure everything out before the end. The narration was very creative, having the three girls tell the story through each other, while acting it out. You guys did awesome with your props and costumes; they helped make the play feel even more real. I thought this was a good idea having small, short plays to perform instead of just reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment Roger. I think. "LOL" I wasnt really sure about the whole play thing in front of the class, but once we got going with it it wasnt bad at all and I really didnt have a very large speaking part. I really loved how my team members put so much heart into the play. It really made it for me. All and all it was a pretty plesent exspience but I dont think I will be heading to broad way any time soon.
ReplyDeleteYes, your play was powerful. It lingered with me throughout the day. Excellent work.
