That September Day by Alan Jackson

So I was listening to my Ipod today and the song That September Day by Alan Jackson came on. I couldn’t help but listen to it either. This song is specifically about September 11th. It is definitely one that always sticks in my mind. Mainly the lyrics are asking what you were doing on that day. I will always remember that day because I was sitting in a classroom just watching the TV and in shock. I couldn’t believe that someone would do something like that to hurt and kill so many people. So the lyrics hit home for me. Especially because one part he says “Were you teaching' a class full of innocent children?” That was me! Also another part I can relate to is in the chorus when he says, “I watch CNN but I’m not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran.” This relates to me because I was watching CNN that day. Also because I have 2 sisters who are in the Army. They were both on lock-down on the bases that day. They also have been to Iran and Iraq and have told me many stories of their travels. I still get them mixed up occasionally. I absolutely love Alan Jackson and his work. Many of his songs are memorable to me in some way. I was glad he wrote his song because September 11th will be in many people memories for a very long time.

  1. I like that song too. I was in 7th grade on September 11. Our teacher let us watch it with the 8th graders that morning. It was really sad that all those people died. I know Iraq and Iran are different places, but other than that I couldn't tell you the difference between them. What is your favorite Alan Jackson song?

  2. You, Amanda, and Anthony should get together and listen your country crap, jk jk. I admire the lyrics for their strength. The topic is a sad one and the song conveys it beautifully. It's cool that you can really relate, considering your sisters. I appreciate songs that let the soldiers know that everyone is thinking about them, and we appreciate what they are doing-even people that aren't into country.

  4. Songs like this one are ones that you never want to forget. They hold you or make you remember a part of history, that you witnessed. I know September 11th will always be in my mind for the many people who lost loved ones and families that were affected afterwards. I know being a pilots daughter we saw some major changes after that day and still today the airlines are affected. This is a great song and I also really like Alan Jackson and his music.

  5. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one in this class that likes country music. I was also like the 80's music. I grew up in the 80's so I guess its only fitting. I never could seem to get a grasp on hard rock.

  6. I was teaching 7th grade (!) when September 11 happened. I remember feeling very numb, and then worrying about myself because I seemed to be incapable of feelings.

Megan, we've already talked about this country music problem. But, considering the powerful lyrics, I guess I'll still give you credit for this blog! :)
